Caring for your H.J. Cave piece

Lifetime Care

Care & Service

Pieces built to outlast their owners. Made to be repaired, not replaced.

Built to Last

Permanent Companions

A Cave piece is not designed for a season. The steamed wood interiors of the trunk pieces are shaped to hold their form for decades. The hand-stitched seams — each stitch pulled by hand — are designed to be repaired stitch by stitch if needed. Full-grain leather improves with age. We build for permanence.

01

Leather Care

Full-grain leather requires very little. Wipe with a soft cloth after use. Allow to breathe overnight — avoid airtight storage. The surface will develop a rich patina that is entirely personal to you.

02

Hardware

18-karat gold plating resists tarnish by nature. Polish gently with a lint-free cloth. Avoid contact with perfume, alcohol-based products, or sharp surfaces.

03

Storage

Store in the provided dust bag, loosely stuffed with acid-free tissue to hold the silhouette. Keep upright in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight. Cedar is preferable to mothballs.

04

Wood Interiors

The steamed wood interior of the Cabin Mini Trunk, Mobile Mini Trunk, and Clutch will age gracefully. If the interior is exposed to moisture, leave the piece open in a ventilated space until fully dry.

05

Rain & Water

Full-grain leather is naturally resilient to light rain. If caught in heavier weather, blot — do not rub — with a soft cloth and allow to dry naturally. Never use heat.

06

Patina

Expect change. Taurillon develops visible grain depth over the first year. Nappa softens. Saddle leather darkens at contact points. This is not wear — it is biography.
